SIG Sauer Introduces “X-Change Kit” for P365 Pistols -The Firearm Blog

SIG Sauer has introduced an X-Change kit to convert your P365 into a P365XL.

When SIG Sauer released the original P365, it quickly became a hit. It made TFB’s “Prancer’s Perfect Pistols” list for Christmas 2018, it earned Reader’s Choice honors in 2019, it was listed as a “Best Summer Carry Gun”, and James “Sky’s Out Thighs Out” Reeves declared it a game-changer in his “Guns of the Decade” list, among a host of other accolades. Today SIG advertises their P365 series as “America’s #1 Selling Handgun”. The SAS version followed the original, and given the smaller P365’s success, many pistoleers cheered when SIG came out with its big brother: the aptly-named P365XL.

This new version maintained everything that people loved about the original, like its concealed carry-friendly slim frame, but grew the gun in many other aspects. The XL gained 0.6 of an inch in barrel length, a half-inch in height, and just shy of an inch in overall length. Additionally, where the smaller version is typically a 10- or 12-round handgun, the XL takes 12-round flush-fit magazines as standard and 15-rounders can be used with ease. Even with the extended mags, the P365XL is still more compact overall and generally considered more concealable than the Glock 19, which has been widely accepted as the gold standard for EDC sidearms for years.

The line's big brother, the P365XL, gave shooters what they liked about the smaller pistol while slightly increasing size and magazine capacity.

The P365XL’s release did make some shooters scowl, however. Some early P365 adopters looked longingly at the bigger version and wished they’d had the XL option at the time they purchased their original. Thankfully, SIG Sauer has heard these customers loud and clear. Given that the series’ internal Firing Control Unit (FCU) is the actual serialized, controlled component – not the grip module or the slide assembly – that means that the grip and slide can be freely and easily swapped out, bought, sold, and shipped without cumbersome requirements like ATF paperwork and FFL transfers. SIG recently came out with a kit for just this purpose: the P365 X-Change Kit.

Turn that, with no need for additional ATF forms or FFL transfers... into this!

This convenient package includes an XRAY Night Sight-equipped XL-length slide assembly and barrel, an XL grip module, and two 12-round magazines. This allows you to use your existing FCU from a regular or SAS P365 and convert it over to a P365XL. This flexibility may not come cheaply, with an MSRP of $499.99, but it is less than buying an entirely new gun. To be fair, many of you will argue that this is too much, too close to the cost of a full-blown P365XL handgun – and that’s probably a fair complaint. But the X-Change Kit does give you the option of upsizing or downsizing depending on your preferences or situation, and it’s actually in stock at the time of this writing – during a time when most guns are exceedingly difficult to find available anywhere. What do you think about the P365XL X-Change Kit? Cool product or would you take a pass? Let us know in the comments. See you at the range!
