The newest scattergun line under Mossberg’s sunny skies adds detachable five-, 10-, 15- and 20-round capacity magazines to its tried-and-true 590 pumps.
Shown off at Industry Day on Monday in the pre-game event for SHOT Show proper was the new Mossberg 590M mag-fed 12-gauge line featuring a patented double-stack magazine in various sizes.
The shotguns themselves use 18.5-inch barrels and are available in two different flavors — a basic cylinder bore for $721 and or with an Accu-Choke, heat shield and ghost ring sights for $821– each with a 10-round magazine included. Optional mags range from $101-$140 depending on size.
Designed for use with 2.75-inch shells only, the mags are polymer with a self-lubricating body, hardened steel feed lips, and integral stabilizing ribs. A removable floor plate allows for cleaning while the springs are music wire.
The mags are beefy, but Mossberg argues they are in a smaller envelope than competitors’ single-stack mags. For reference, the five-round mags are 5.375-inches high, the 10’s are eight-, the 15’s are 10.375-, and the 20s are a whopping 12.625-inches from floor plate bottom to the top of the feed lips.
