What You Need For Everyday Carry
In order for concealed carry to work, it needs to be everyday carry. Your gun does you no good when you are somewhere it is not.
It’s impossible to know specifically the time, date, and location of a potential attack upon yourself, your family, or your property. Plenty of people get lulled into a sense of complacency because the vast majority of us go through our entire lives without any violent interruptions. The reality of the world is that is not the norm. There are desperate people in this world and they, at different times, will seek to take things that you may not be willing to give – your life being chief amongst them.
It’s for this reason that we have to carry every single day, everywhere allowed by law.
It’s easy to find reasons not to carry, but the best practice is to conceal and carry wherever and whenever you possibly can. However, you need a few things in order to do that. Let’s go over what you need for everyday carry.
Finding A Concealed Carry Holster That Suits Your Activities
One of the first things you need is a good concealed carry holster.
Obviously, your life imposes its own requirements, which are different from that of other people. Therefore, you need a CCW holster that suits you.
A holster is one of those items that a first-time concealed carrier may overlook. It doesn’t need to be expensive but it does need to work with your daily routine and stay concealed. We recommend going with a two-clip inside the waistband pistol holster that has a backpad for distributing weight and pull.
However, you may find that a high-ride OWB or paddle holster suits your lifestyle better. Make sure to select a carry holster that suits your life and activities.
Make Gun Safety A Priority For Everyday Carry
Another everyday carry essential is gun safety. If you can’t carry safely, you have no business having or being anywhere near a firearm.
Carrying in Condition 1/0 is actually the safest way to carry a concealed carry pistol. There’s a caveat, though – it needs a holster that grips the gun well and keeps the trigger protected. If you need to draw your gun to defend your life, you don’t want to be thinking about whether a round is loaded in the chamber. Similarly, you don’t want to worry about whether or not your gun is going to fall out of its holster because you broke into a light jog (or even a run). Get a holster that grips your concealed carry pistol tightly and keeps that trigger protected until you’re ready to fire.
Wear A Comfortable And Durable Gun Holster
If your everyday carry holster isn’t comfortable, you’re not going to wear it. That’s a fact of life. We can say all we want about the responsibility to carry concealed and stay safe, but if we can’t implement that change into our own lives comfortably, it’s just not going to happen.
That’s why we recommend sticking to a holster that uses a neoprene backpad. A backpad distributes the weight of the gun along a larger surface area, which in turn means you spend less time thinking about your holster and more time thinking about the road, your work, or the situation unfolding before you.
Choose A Good Concealed Carry Handgun For You
There are so many opinions on what the perfect concealed carry handgun is, so many recommendations, and it’s almost entirely bunk. The reality is your everyday carry should be a good concealed carry gun FOR YOU.
The first gun you pick up as your concealed carry pistol may not be the gun you’re carrying in a year or even six months. Tastes change and sometimes you discover a new handgun that you feel is better suited to your everyday carry needs. Getting a holster that has a lifetime warranty and free retention shell replacement is just one easy step towards ensuring the holster you’ve trained with is the holster you’re still carrying – even if your pistol has changed.
You might find you prefer slim, single-stack polymer framed subcompacts like the M&P Shield, or maybe a compact like a Glock 19 or CZ P07. You might find you prefer a snubbie revolver. You might also find you like old-school pistols like the Browning Hi Power or 1911, which are easier to conceal than modern service guns because of the slim frames.
You need to find the CCW gun that you like best, that you can carry and conceal easily and shoot well. That’s the best everyday carry gun to have.
