Austrian firearms manufacturer Strasser has introduced the next generation of their RS-14 straight pull bolt action hunting rifles. The new line is called Evolution. It includes two new rifles called RS-14 Evolution Standard and RS-14 Evolution Tahr. The main difference of Evolution rifles from the basic RS-14 is the addition of a top Picatinny rail which is a single-piece part with the receiver.
The difference between the Standard and Tahr models is mostly the stock design. The Standard model comes with a walnut stock whereas the Tahr has a laminate stock. The Tahr stock is also more versatile and ambidextrous. It lacks a side cheekpiece but has an adjustable height of the cheek rest. It also has a different, more ergonomic forearm shape, and QD sling swivel sockets located on either side of the stock.
The Strasser patented BEST Barrel Exchange System allows to relatively quickly change between one of the 22 caliber options. Strasser divides the calibers into groups of Mini, Standard and Magnum. Here is the list of calibers available for RS-14 Evolution rifles:
Mini caliber (MIN): .222 Rem., .223 Rem., .300 AAC Blackout
Standard caliber (STA): .22-250 Rem., .243 Win., 6 XC, 6,5 Creedmoor, 6,5-284 Norma, 6,5x55SE, 6,5x65RWS, .270 Win., 7×64, 7 mm-08 Rem., .308 Win., .30-06, 8×57 IS, 8,5×63, 9,3×62
Magnum caliber (MAG): 7 mm Rem. Mag., .300 Win. Mag., .375 Ruger; .338 Win. Mag.
The Mini and Standard caliber rifles come with 22″ barrels and have an overall length of 42″. The Magnum caliber barrels have a 24″ length. Mini and Standard caliber rifles are fed from 3-round detachable magazines and the magazine capacity of Magnum calibers is 2 rounds. There are also optional extended magazines of 5 and 6 round capacity.
